2012: A Plastic Retrospective

2012 is done, and what a year for plastic collecting it has been! This has been one of the busier years for me with oodles of PVCs, action figures and even nendoroids (which I usually don’t bother with). Instead of looking over EVERYTHING I’ve gotten over the year we’ll just take a look at the big figures.

Post is not safe for work!

NAMI: Review Here
I’ve never been much of a Nami girl. Being of the melancholic loner stock I associated much more with Nico Robin, and greatly enjoyed her until my heart was stolen by Boa Hancock’s uncontrollable sexiness.

STOCKING: Review Here
This is a Stocking that got a lot of hate for…obvious reasons, but I ended up liking her a lot. Her face is a train wreck but her body makes up for it. I also really like her vibrant colors, especially compared to…

STOCKING AGAIN
Alter is essentially a figure god at this point but even they drop the ball every now and then. This Stocking has a great sculpt (though her ‘enchancements’ have bothered some collecters) but her paint has left me disappointed. Her colors are very dark and dull. The absurdly pale skin I can understand considering her lifestyle choices, but why are her clothes so dull? The previous Stocking is radiant in comparison.

ERIO
I’m not a fan of Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko. Interesting concept…too bad the show went nowhere with it. Erio was adorable, though. Figure companies seem to struggle with properly portraying her face, though Wave did an admirable job. This Erio also has semi-transparent hair so it looks really cool under light.

TORIKAGO NO SHOUJO: Review Here
2012 was a damn good year for figures. Two of my grails went up for pre-order, one of which was Sayame here. Totally worth the absurdly long wait. Cafe Reo and Questioners will forever have my gratitude for releasing this.

caster
CASTER
Haven’t reviewed this one yet, but it would easily be summed up with the following words: IT’S LOVE! Seriously. Caster immediately earned her WAIFU status (namely “vulpine waifu from the imperial tomb”) when she became my servant of choice. I know choosing Caster first in Fate/Extra is considered suicidal, but WHO CARES?! SHE’S ADORABLE!

shirahoshi
SHIRAHOSHI
Oh wow, what an attractive young pink haired lady!

shirahoshi2
…oh. You don’t have legs. You poor thing.

Shirahoshi is a rarity in the figure world, in that she’s a mermaid. I do own one mermaid figure but Shirahoshi blows that one out of the water. I’ve been wanting to review Shirahoshi for a while but I’m waiting until I scout out a nice, watery location to do a photoshoot. Sorry guys.

SOLANGE: Review Here
I’m not going to write another paragraph about Solange. I think my review of her was long enough. Go read it. (SPOILERS: She’s good!)

MORDINA: Review Here
I find it mildly amusing that Mordina’s review is one of my most popular. In fact, it’s the only figure review I did in 2012 to make it into my “TOP 5 MOST POPULAR POSTS!” list. (at least according to WordPress.com) Given a few more months Mordina will take the number one spot. Another fun fact? Another of my most popular posts is for Another Lady Innocent. You know, that hentai by Satoshi Urushihara. So apparently you guys want more smut on this site.

VIOLET
I can deliver, if that’s what you really want. Violet was the first figure I got this year and is by far the most impressive of the bunch. Well, okay…I guess Solange is more impressive if just for her armor. But just look at Violet! She’s so lovely. And her tits are so big. Pity I wasn’t able to get her pink-haired sister.

There you go. This post isn’t even counting the other stuff I got. This was a pretty expensive year…2013 won’t be the same case, considering the rising costs of this hobby and my lack of funding. But hopefully I’ll still be able to get some gems. Wonderful hobby life, right? Happy collecting in 2013, kids.

  1. Personally I like this SHIRAHOSHI figure a lot she’s beautiful and cute at the same time, too bad she has no legs, otherwise I would have probably ordered her.

You could sell the Stocking figure that you don’t like and try to get the red sister of Violet.

    • True, I could sell Stocking. I actually do like her quite a bit, but can’t help but be disappointed every time I look at her.

Shirahoshi is a nice figure, with or without legs. I’m hoping that now that she’s been released (and sold pretty well) we’ll be seeing more humanoid/mythological based character figures. Monster girls do seem to be growing into the latest craze, after all.
