Dip Mou

NAME: Dip Mou
SERIES: Elegance
SCULPTOR: ORI
SCALE/CREATOR: 1/6, by Gathering (e2046)
RELEASE DATE: April 2009

Today we ditch the men in favor of a pretty, pretty pipa-playing princess.

Rock on, your majesty. Rock on.

Hooray! A musician at long last! Now my pirate crew is one step closer to completion. (See One Piece to catch reference)

Dip Mou is a part of e2046’s ORI line. ORI, which stands for “original”, is a series of new (original) sculpts based on established characters like Asuka Langley Sohryu and Kanu Unchou. There are a few characters created by e2046 (like Dip Mou), but attentive forum members have pointed out that even these designs are frequently based on pre-existing designs from various MMORPG titles.

Of course a girl’s instrument has to be pink.

According to the story Dip Mou, whose name means “Butterfly Dance”, is a princess of a foreign tribe who loves playing music. She prances around in the wind while jamming the night away…or something. In this case, it seems she pranced her way onto the roof of a Chinese building. She got some serious guts to stand in a place like that…on her tippy-toes.

Get your dress out of my face! Wagh!

She comes carefully packaged in loads of Styrofoam and bubble wrap almost completely disassembled. You need to attach her head, a piece of her hair, her right arm, her pipa, and several parts of her dress. It doesn’t take too much effort and most of the parts fit snugly in place.

How does she walk in that dress?

Dip Mou’s got a boat load of detail on her. The folds in her flowing dress are amazing. And the sculptor went through the trouble of painstakingly sculpting/carving all of the detail in her jewelry! There are even little strings on her pipa. The paint job is also flawless.

Awesome base.

Dip Mou comes on a rather unique base: a slab of miniature stone colored Chinese architecture! Dip Mou is attached to this via GIGANTIC slab of resin on her foot. With such a big peg supporting her (combined with her relatively light weight) there’s no chance of her leaning.

OVERALL: 10/10

+ Beautiful flowing dress and amazing details
+ Unique base
+ No leaning issues! Hooray!

- Lots of assembly required

Amazing detail, a beautiful sculpt and overall exceptional design make Dip Mou one of the best figures in my collection. I wish that ORI did more genuinely “elegant” characters for the Elegance series. Most of the characters so far are half-naked sexpots. Even Dip Mou has some serious fanservice going on with obvious cleavage and a ridiculously short yellow underskirt. But she’s still pretty darn elegant. If you decide to add her to your collection, she’ll set you back $135.
