And the man love continues with a review of Sanji from One Piece, courtesy of the awesome people at MegaHouse.
At the Copa….Copacabana…
Sanji is my current favorite member of the Straw Hat Pirates. He’s a smooth talking, chain smoking chef who loves the ladies (a bit too much). Due to a near fatal childhood incident, he refuses to let anyone go hungry. They can be a friend or an enemy…or maybe just some random guy washed out to sea. But if they’re hungry, Sanji’s gonna feed them.
It’s because you smoke to much that you got that horrible 4Kids dub voice, Sanji.
I call them “1/8 Scale” but MegaHouse’s One Piece figures are very large and heavy for the scale. I’m pretty tempted to just call them 1/7’s. Sanji’s character design is very plain…for an Eiichiro Oda character, anyway. (His only “strange” feature is his curly eyebrow.) If you didn’t know any better, you’d just think he’s some random guy who just got off work and is enjoying a smoke.
Talking to someone off screen? Or talking to the wall? You decide.
Like with Zoro, Sanji is an improved re-release. His original release several years ago didn’t have such a refined paint job, and used a clamp base instead of a peg one. He looks great for such a simple figure, but he lacks the visual punch that Zoro had. Zoro had swords! Three swords! Sanji just has a cigarette. But like Zoro, Sanji’s face looks weird at some angles thanks to his expression.
As expected from MH, his sculpt work is excellent and the paint job is very good. I’m disappointed that they didn’t put any shading on his pants (like Zoro), but at least they made his shoes shiny. Also, they chose a really ugly shade of mustard yellow for his hair. Sanji’s hair should be a lighter color!
Deadliest feet you’ll ever see. No, seriously. One kick from this guy and you’re a goner.
Sanji comes with a lovely blue base featuring his name, his crew’s name and Jolly Roger. The base isn’t completely necessary. Like Zoro, Sanji can stand just fine on his own. But would you let that base go to waste? Would you?
OVERALL: 8/10

Go, One Piece fans! You must get all the Mugiwara! Luckily for you Sanji’s slated for a July re-release. Be sure to pick him up along with Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Chopper, Nico Robin, Franky, Brook, etc…
