Yoko Littner

NAME: Yoko Littner
SERIES: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
SCULPTOR: Vispo
SCALE/CREATOR: 1/6, by Gathering (e2046)
RELEASE DATE: August 2008

That flaming skull with the ridiculous sunglasses that somehow manage to look good when Kamina wears them can only mean one thing…it’s Gurren Lagann time.

I’d take Yoko over Kanu Unchou anyday.

Most of this review can be summed up in one sentence: Goddamn, Yoko is hot. But hey, it’s not a proper review unless I ramble about stuff you may or may not understand. Let us begin.

A person with a sane breast size, like me, could never sport the badass flaming bikini top look. ;_;

Like the 1/5 Gwendolyn, this Yoko is one of Gathering’s most impressive offerings. The original resin kit featured over 100 parts. That’s 100 parts that needed to be cleaned, sanded, primed, painted and assembled. This definitely isn’t a rookie kit we’re dealing with here. Luckily Gathering came to the rescue and did all of the mind-numbing work for us. All for the measly price of $255. (I can hear heads exploding now.)

Powerful enough to take down a giant robot.

There’s not much to say here that I haven’t said about previous Gathering offerings. Yoko’s paint job is pretty close to flawless. And Vispo’s sculpt is just downright amazing. You’ve got a pretty girl wielding a big rifle on an awesome HOVERBIKE with lights.

HOVERBIKE!

The problems with this kit start with the HOVERBIKE. Originally, Yoko was delayed due to a “defect”, and I’m suspecting the defect was the vehicle. The bike seems to be comprised of two major parts. Where they connect in the center, however, doesn’t seem very stable. A black block was added under the bike to take pressure off of this delicate center, but it still shifts around when you pick it up.

You can actually open and close this little hatch as you please. It’s a nice little feature.

Also, big word of warning: Yoko isn’t attached to the bike in any way. She’s simply placed on the seat. Moving her is always a big risk since the slightest touch could send her toppling over, which is almost always fatal for a resin figure. It would’ve been nice if Gathering could’ve modified the kit to include a peg to secure her. Instead they added an optional seat part for the bike…which is actually pretty nice.

The bike actually lights up!

The big selling point for Yoko, aside from her ridiculous sexiness, is the bike’s ability to light up. It’s installed with blue LED’s. Press a switch near the bike’s seat and behold the glory of light.

You cost me half a month’s salary!

One thing that makes this Yoko stand out from the rest of the kits, aside from her awesome glowing HOVERBIKE, fabric strap for her rifle, and absurd size, is her hair. Most Yoko kits are true to the anime, where Yoko’s hair doesn’t have much detail at all. Vispo went all out and actually made Yoko’s hair…well…look like hair. *It normally looks like a long red blob*

OVERALL: 10/10
This is an absolutely amazing figure with near perfect quality. The good points far outweigh the bad…just make sure once you get Yoko, don’t move her. This figure is REALLY VERY EXTREMELY recommended to Gurren Lagann enthusiasts with cash to burn…even though this figure is currently out of stock. For those of you with limited funds, consider getting the Yoko Portraits artbook instead. Eighteen bucks, and totally worth it.

Woah, that is freakin’ sweet! It totally has that vispo look. Interesting to see that the style and flare is maintained for Yoko just as much as Asuka. And you’re right. I’d take Yoko over Kanou anyday!

Adding you to my blogroll. :)

      Thanks for the add!

Seems the easiest way to identify Vispo’s work is by the faces: They tend to be more angular/sharper than what you’d normally see. And then there’s the crazy detail that goes into the clothes and other accessories. I wonder how long it takes to make these figures?

This pre-painted resin was available at e2046 but sadly it’s been sold out for a long time. There are a few ways you may be able to get it, but none of them are good:

      - You can wait for e2046 to issue another run of the Yoko figure
      - You can buy the unpainted/unassembled resin kit and make Yoko yourself
      - You can buy the resin kit and commission someone else to build & paint it (but this is going to cost you a FORTUNE)
      - Find someone that owns it and try to buy it off them
