NAME: Souseiseki, Suiseiseki
SERIES: Rozen Maiden
SCULPTOR: Bubba
SCALE/CREATOR: Non-scale, by Gathering (e2046)
RELEASE DATE: October 2007

Ah…Boku and Desu. They’re the delightful twins from Rozen Maiden. Don’t let their timid appearance fool you. Souseiseki (the one in blue) is a pretty fierce fighter while Suiseiseki (in green) is a sharp-tongued prankster.

I wish my hair was that awesome.
The Seki Twins come courtesy of e2046’s Gathering, a line of high quality pre-painted resin recasts. The original sculpt is by Bubba from Pla-Guild. Really talented guy, that Bubba. The way he handled Suiseiseki’s curly hair is pretty impressive. There’s also a great amount of detail in the clothing.

The sisters share a loving embrace. And yes, sisters. The one in the top hat is female, despite her adorable boyish appearance.
There was some extremely minor assembly required. Suiseiseki’s….head…scarf thing needed to be placed on her head, and the cross needed to be placed on the base. Easy stuff. My Souseiseki did receive some minor damage during shipping, but it was nothing a glob of super-glue couldn’t fix. The cross only has one tiny peg holding it up, so it isn’t very stable. The base is actually optional since the twins can easily stand on their own.

What in blazes does that say?
The twins don’t have any noticeable flaws with the sculpt. The paint job’s fairly impressive to boot, though there are several color-related errors. Some parts of Suiseiseki’s costume that are supposed to be black have been painted green. Her shoes are white (instead of brown, like Souseiseki’s). As for Souseiseki, her legs are flesh colored…she’s supposed to be wearing white tights. Ah well.

The folds in the clothes look fabulous! I have a hard enough time just drawing folds. I can’t imagine what it’s like to have to sculpt them.
Color issues aside, the paint job looks great. Using blue to shade Suiseiseki’s dress was a weird choice, but the end result is very pretty. The paint’s major downfall is with the eyes. The eyes in Bubba’s original almost looked glass-like. Here…they…just look like painted eyes. Not bad, but nowhere near as impressive as the original. The overall painting is impressive enough, yeah?
OVERALL: 8/10
You get two gorgeous characters for the price of one! What a deal! Unfortunately the Seki Twins sold out a long time ago, and it doesn’t look like another Gathering batch will be released anytime soon. The unassembled resin recast should still be available for pre-order, though.

Is Souseiseki really that boyish as everyone says?:O
Oh well…I guess I just like trap girls.
What an adorable figure, what I wouldn’t give to have it.

Hmm…she’s a bit boyish but I wouldn’t call her a super tomboy. Neither the anime or manga spends too much time focusing on Souseiseki, sadly. She’s much more calm, serious and mature than the other Rozen Maiden dolls…which I guess is a big reason why she’s neglected. (Suiseiseki steals all the attention…)
